Pygmy nuthatch (Sitta pygmaea) - Mountain chickadee (Poecille gambeli) - Downy woodpecker (Picoides pubescens) The lighting today has been absolutely breathtaking for photography. Although I saw nothing on my hike in Rose Valley today, I did hear crossbills, which is always exciting! But, still kind of disappointing. What I’m thinking is after this sudden dump of snow most of the birds headed down to the valley bottom hence all of the varied thrushes, the American dipper, rusty blackbird and orange crowned warbler that just showed up at Powers Creek. But the birds at my feeder, shown here have also been thriving! I’ve had so many new feeder birds this week alone, Stellar’s jay, Clark’s nutcracker, white breasted nuthatch and black capped chickadee are all new birds on the block who I’ve happily accepted into the family! Even so, the numbers have been the real shocker, I’m not exaggerating when I say thousands of nuthatches flow through my yard every day encompassing all three species. On top of that coveys of quail roost in the raspberries, magpie gangs frequently raid the suet feeder, Western bluebirds dispute nesting cavities for the distant summer, and a Cooper’s hawk sends flocks of juncos and finches scattering. This sudden November abundance has been such a delight for me to watch, and such it’s treat to get to know all these new characters in my neighbourhood. #feederbirds #pygmynuthatch #nuthatch #mountainchickadee #chickadee #downeywoodpecker #woodpecker #feederbirds #birdfeeder #bird #birding #birds #Kelowna #okanagan #beautifulbritishcolumbia #loves_canada #birding_lounge #avian #kelownaisbeautiful #pocket_birds #explore_okanagan #animal_bestshots #birdwatching
